Sky Attack - Video and Digital Animation

Sky Attack
Sky Attack is a handheld 3D Tomytronic game from the 80s. I think the game itself is beautifully designed, based heavily on the film Tron. For me, it resonates with nostalgia for childhood.
For the video, I dismantled the headset to reveal the split screen inside. I took photos of the panel displaying all the sprites, then in Photoshop, separated them out onto individual layers.
Working in Final Cut, I then edited the sprites to light up in time with music, taking the completed animation and superimposing it onto shots of the blank screen in situ.

Music was composed by Matthew Spokes (Creeping Jaw Society) and is comprised entirely of distorted audio samples taken from the original game.

In September 2011, Sky Attack was picked up by kotaku.com and given a feature. The video picked over 6000 views from kotaku readers, many of whom have commented and contacted me saying how much they enjoyed the work.
